A Message from the Superintendent/President | Mourning with our Asian Pacific Islander Desi American communities

The senseless shooting on Saturday during the Lunar New Year celebration in Monterey Park, CA has left us devastated. The Lunar New Year is a holiday that represents so much to the communities we support and serve. The day is meant to be filled with hope, positivity, and is designed to bring family, friends, and communities together. This tragedy hits close to home, as we were shocked to learn the suspect was from Hemet. We mourn alongside our APIDA students, faculty, staff, and community and we ask you to join us in keeping the victims, their families and community in our thoughts.

Twenty-one people - 19 of them children - were murdered yesterday. Their promising lives ended by a gunman who barged into their school and opened fire. Three other children are in critical condition. We pray for their recovery. We pray for those who were senselessly murdered.
