A Message from the Superintendent/President | Farewell Eagles
Dear Eagle Community,
After 25 and a half years at MSJC, 18 as your superintendent/president, the time has finally come for me to depart and say farewell. It has been an amazing run at the helm of this great institution, watching this institution grow. I am immensely proud to have witnessed the impact of our collective work on the community broaden over the years, and most importantly, living the vision of transforming the lives of students for the better in record numbers each year.

Please know how much I appreciate the entire MSJC family. Your work and dedication in each area have allowed us to help countless students realize the power of education. There is so much appreciation for our transformative work within our community. Many of our eagles have become doctors, lawyers, school superintendents and teachers, nurses, mechanics, engineers and others in every scope of work that exists within our region. Heck, I am so proud to know that many former students are now faculty and staff at MSJC and choose to continue to be a part of the legacy we’ve built.
We have done this great work because of what YOU ALL do. I don’t just mean the work of faculty in the classroom, each area from counseling to the student services counters, to campus safety to accountants and the HR team, as well as the facilities and grounds employees. Each of you plays an integral role in the success of our students. Simply put, commencement would not be possible without your dedication and the countless contributions you make behind the scenes.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I have many fond memories and yes, we have done some amazing things with graduations, new and enhanced programs, awards and buildings, but I will without a doubt miss the people the most. I have had students who made me a better leader by challenging me to see the world through their lens and deepening my understanding of their needs. And there are so many of you whom I am fortunate to call friends. Again, that is what I will miss the most the friendships and bonds forged while collaborating in this rewarding but frequently challenging work. Thank you again for allowing me the privilege of serving alongside each of you in support of our diverse students and the dynamic communities we are honored to serve.
I leave MSJC with great pride in our work and all confidence that you will carry on and accomplish even greater things.
My heartfelt appreciation to you, my friends, for this journey and the rich memories.
I will close with a quote with an unknown author that I’ve use frequently over the years, “To those whom much is given, much is expected.” Now go do great things Eagles!
Wishing you all the very best. Until we meet again!
Roger
