A Message from the Superintendent/President | Welcome to Spring 2025
1/13/2025
Hi Eagles,
Happy New Year, and welcome to the spring 2025 semester! I hope you all enjoyed the holiday season and the well-deserved time off to relax and spend time with loved ones.
As we kick off the second semester of the 2024-2025 academic year, I am looking forward to all that’s in store. But first, I want to acknowledge the devasting impact of the Los Angeles fires. The MSJC community extends its deepest sympathies to all those affected by the fires and to those who have experienced unimaginable loss.
Although the fires may seem far away to some, the reality is that this destruction has distressed so many lives, even within the MSJC community. Please take a moment to reflect on the magnitude and impact of these fires within our communities. If you can help someone in need, be it a supportive call or resource information, please be there for one another.
Many of you may already be aware that the unpredictable weather and winds largely contributed to these fires. MSJC has received notice that these winds will continue this week, and because of this, the district may continue to experience emergency power shut-offs. Please check your communications regularly and be prepared to adjust should we receive word that a campus may be losing power.
I know this is some heavy information for the start of the semester, but please know that we are in this together. MSJC is here to support you, and it’s our goal to offer you the best educational experience possible.
Traditionally, the spring semester offers a variety of enriching events and opportunities. Beginning with our first week of the semester Welcome Back tables. Whether you are a returning student or brand new to our campuses, we invite you to visit one of our welcome back tables on each campus Monday through Thursday this week. There you'll find tons of information, wayfinding resources, a light snack, and a friendly smile.
The first few weeks of the semester are just the beginning of so many opportunities for you to get involved, collaborate with your peers, and find community here at MSJC. Please check out our events calendar for more exciting events and ways to stay connected.
Please take advantage of the many student support resources we have on campus for you. MSJC’s Student Services offers mental health counseling, mentorship and guidance programs, student basic need essentials, and so much more. Instructional Services provides classroom and curriculum assistance through tutoring, supplemental instruction, and an array of academic programs designed to meet your educational needs.
Sending my best wishes to all those anticipating graduation, waiting to receive university acceptance letters, scholarship awards, or job offers. The faculty and staff here at MSJC are here for you and want to help you reach the finish line, whatever that looks like for you. I know your futures are bright, and I can’t wait to hear the amazing things you all accomplish.
I’ll see you around campus. And remember, work hard, but also take the time you need to have a little fun.
Take good care,
Roger
