A Message from the Superintendent/President: Transgender Day of Visibility

3/31/2026

On March 31, we join communities across the nation and around the world in observing International Transgender Day of Visibility, a day dedicated to honoring the lives, contributions, and resilience of transgender people, while also raising awareness of the challenges they continue to face.

At Mt. San Jacinto College, this day is both a celebration and a reaffirmation of our values. We recognize that for many transgender individuals, visibility can come with both pride and vulnerability. In a time when members of the transgender community continue to experience discrimination and marginalization, it is essential that we remain steadfast in our commitment to equity, dignity, and inclusion for all.

To our transgender students, faculty, staff, and community members: you are seen, you are valued, and you belong at MSJC. Your presence strengthens our college, enriches our classrooms, and reminds us of the importance of creating a learning environment where every individual can thrive authentically.

Over the years, MSJC has taken meaningful steps to foster a more inclusive and affirming campus—from expanding academic offerings that explore gender and identity, to strengthening student support services, to uplifting spaces such as our LGBTQIA+ student organizations and Pride resources. These efforts reflect a shared commitment across our institution to ensure that all students feel safe, supported, and empowered in their educational journey.

As I share this message, I do so with a deep sense of reflection and gratitude. After nearly two decades serving as Superintendent/President, this will be my final message recognizing Transgender Day of Visibility. It has been one of the greatest honors of my career to witness the growth of a more inclusive MSJC; one shaped by courageous students, dedicated faculty, and compassionate staff who continue to move our institution forward.

While leadership may change, our commitment must not. I am confident that MSJC will continue to champion inclusion, expand opportunity, and ensure that every member of our community is treated with respect and care.

I invite all members of the MSJC community to take a moment today to learn, to listen, and to celebrate the contributions of transgender individuals, both within our college and beyond.

Together, we affirm that visibility matters, inclusion matters, and every voice deserves to be heard.

With appreciation and respect,

Dr. Roger Schultz
