A Message from the Superintendent/President | Transgender Day of Visibility
3/28/2025
On March 31, 2025, we join people throughout the world in observing International
Transgender Day of Visibility. This celebration was initially launched in 2010 by
trans activist Rachel Crandall Crocker to honor the lives of transgender people. We
recognize that this message comes at a difficult time for many transgender people
who are facing increasing discrimination, violence, and erasure throughout the country.
Given this climate, I want to make it clear to all members of the transgender community
at MSJC that we support you and value your presence at the college. We are unwavering
in our dedication to helping you reach your educational goals.
In 2022, our Board of Trustees committed to creating an inclusive and affirming campus that supports our LGBTQIA+ students. Faculty and staff have worked diligently to
enhance our support of transgender students at Mt. San Jacinto College in the last
several years. You’ll find a number of resources available on the MSJC Pride website.
We understand that representation and visibility are important for marginalized communities
and so the college has begun offering courses like Queer Studies and Literature of
Gender and Sexuality, increased materials about trans people in the library, and events
that highlight the accomplishments of trans people. Thanks to the work of dedicated
faculty advisors and student leaders we have the LGBTQIA+ clubs SAGA and Queer Clubhouse for students to participate in.
On Friday, May 16, MSJC will host the 3rd annual Lavender Graduation. I encourage
graduating LGBTQIA+ students to RSVP to participate in the ceremony, and to apply to be a student speaker. All are invited to this event in celebration of our LGBTQIA+ students.
Please join me in honoring the incredible resilience and accomplishments of our transgender
community at MSJC.
