First Year Experience at MSJC
Mt. San Jacinto College’s First Year Experience (FYE) Program is designed to make sure all first-time students have a successful transition into college life. We provide first-year students with extra support through strategic programming that focuses on positive academic transitions and the development of their educational planning during the on-boarding process. FYE is here to help you connect with the college and identify a degree path that leads to a degree completion or transfer. Through partnerships with faculty, staff, and students, our program creates the space for students to define how they will engage, learn, and thrive at MSJC. Equity and Social Justice are a high priority at MSJC and the FYE program is committed in providing a welcoming and inclusive environment so that all first-time students have the opportunity to grow, learn and lead at MSJC and beyond.
Great News! The First Year Experience Program is introducing a zero-cost Seminar Style course for all first-year students as an entry point to the program. To become a First Year Experience student all you have to do is apply to the program with the above link and enroll in a Student Success Seminar (SSS-990) within your first year at Mt. San Jacinto Community College. Student Success Seminar courses are available to register for the Student Success Seminar.
All student applications submitted on November 17, 2021, after 4:00 P.M. will receive all benefits of the First Year Experience Program and early registration for Spring 2022.
Students in the FYE Program have access to:
FYE students are able to register for classes earlier than most students, meaning you are able to get into the classes you need during the times you want them! Check your email for your registration date and see if you have any holds that could prevent you from registering early.
Counselors have the most updated information about the FYE program and specialize in assisting first-year students. However, if you are part of another program (i.e. ASC, EOPS, Umoja, Puente, or Athletics), you can choose to visit those counselors for that specific program.
FYE students are encourage to meet with a counselor at least once a semester to discuss their academic progress.
Here are some questions you could ask:
- What classes should I take this semester?
- What classes do I need to take for my major
- Will my AP classes from high school count as college credit?
- How do I prepare to transfer to a 4 year university?
- Will Financial aid be able to cover the cost?
- What do I do if I find the workload to be too much?
- I am undecided on my major, classes can I take?
Any first time college student can become part of the First Year Experience! Previous dual or concurrent enrollment students who took courses through MSJC are welcome to apply. Students with incoming transferring units are not considered first time college students.
