MSJC UPDATE: Fairview Fire

9/9/2022

Dear MSJC Community,

We continue to monitor the Fairview Fire, which is expanding rapidly. We wanted to reach out today (September 9) to let you know when and where to find updated information about classes and activities for next week.

MSJC officials have been on multiple campuses all week and we have observed the smoke and ash on the San Jacinto and Menifee Valley campuses. Our Temecula Valley Campus is shrouded in a mixture of smoke and storm clouds from the approaching Tropical Storm Kay

Fortunately, our campuses are largely vacant on Fridays, as most classes are online and only a few who are critical to safety or are required by mandates are on campuses. We are poised to close campuses should conditions necessitate that action. Your health and safety are our top priority, and we will communicate with you immediately if there are changes to your classes or activities.

As Tropical Storm Kay approaches, other potential issues could emerge from the high winds, possible lightning, and rain. The CalFire website is a good resource for reliable information, including evacuation centers and animal shelters.

We will be watching over the weekend and meeting to make the appropriate decisions for next week.

On Sunday evening, you will receive communications about the status of on-campus classes and other activities. Please check your student or employee email or visit the MSJC website. You can also follow us on TwitterFacebookInstagram or other official MSJC social media found at the bottom of the MSJC website home page to get the latest information.

We continue to provide assistance for students and employees who have emergency needs related to the fire. Review the multiple resources available for assistance, including those through our Eagles Landing Center.

If you wish to donate to help others affected by the Fairview Fire, please check with the MSJC Foundation

Students, we have your back! With our dedicated faculty, classified professionals and administrators, and offices like the Eagles Landing Center and the MSJC Foundation, we know we can navigate this together. Please work with your instructors if you are impacted by the wildfire and are having problems attending any of your classes.

MSJC faculty, classified professionals, and administrators, a heartfelt thank you. We know some of you are also affected by the fire, yet you remain dedicated to our students and MSJC. We also have your back. If any employees need assistance, please check with the MSJC Foundation

We send much gratitude to our firefighters, law enforcement, and first responders as we continue to keep them, and our staff and students affected in our thoughts.

Please stay safe!

Roger
