MSJC Community,

We are kicking off the new year with exciting developments and continued growth at Mt. San Jacinto College! Our commitment to student success and institutional excellence remains at the forefront of our mission. Below are the latest highlights from our Board of Trustees and Executive Cabinet meetings. Expect to receive these updates on a monthly basis to stay informed on key developments at MSJC. 

Superintendent/President & Executive Cabinet Updates: 

  • Board of Governors Approves Center Status for Temecula Valley Campus: On Tuesday, January 15, 2025, the Board of Governors unanimously approved Center Status for the Temecula Valley Campus, securing an additional $2.2 million dollars in funding to support the needs of this site. This milestone reflects our dedication to expanding educational opportunities and resources for our students. 

  • Governor Newsom’s Proposed 2025-26 Budget: MSJC is closely monitoring Governor Newsom’s proposed 2025-26 budget and its potential impact on community colleges. Stay tuned for further analysis and updates as we navigate the budgetary landscape.   • 2023-2024 Annual Report: Our Annual Report for 2023-2024 is now available! This report organized by the top five institutional priorities, showcases our achievements, financial overview, and student success stories over the past year.  

  • Spring 2025 Enrollment Snapshot: Brandon Moore, VP of Institutional Effectiveness & Enrollment Management, shared an overview of our Spring 2025 enrollment numbers. We continue to see steady growth in student enrollment, reflecting the increasing demand for accessible and high-quality education at MSJC.  
    • 16,953 Headcount, up 1,081 students from SP24  
    • 6,262 FTES, up 580 from SP24  
    • On target for over 14,000 FTES for the 2024-25 academic year  
    • 4,921 students taking at least one class at MVC  
    • 2,933 students taking at least one class at SJC  
    • 2,385 students taking at least one class at TVC  

  • Accreditation Update: Rebecca Teague, VP of Student Services, provided an update on the accreditation process, ensuring that MSJC remains in full compliance with accreditation standards to uphold academic excellence. MSJC will welcome the ACCJC Accreditation site visit team Tuesday, February 25 through Thursday, February 27. Please visit the MSJC Accreditation SharePoint site for more information.   

  • Fraud Update: Brandon Moore also addressed measures taken to prevent and mitigate fraudulent activities within our institution, reinforcing our commitment to integrity and accountability. The Student Services and Institutional Effectiveness divisions continue collaborating to identify and address fraudulent enrollment and financial aid activity. To date, over 36,000 accounts have been flagged for suspicious enrollment activity, with 2.7% successfully verified and cleared for registration. Efforts remain focused on streamlining the verification process for students mistakenly flagged while minimizing disruptions to the registration system, ensuring legitimate students can access the courses they need.  

  • Legislative Priorities: Karin Marriott, Director of Institutional & Government Relations, outlined the district’s legislative priorities
    • Fully funded enrollments  
      • Approximately 3,000 FTES are unfunded  
    • Emerging Programs Funding Support  
    • Support for our High Priority Students   

Board of Trustees Updates: 

  • Trustee Jhalister Corona and Student Trustee Sam Cardenas participated in the Community College League of California Annual Legislative Conference in Sacramento, where staff and trustees engaged with state legislators to advocate for MSJC’s legislative priorities.  

  • Trustee Vicki Carpenter attended the Southwest County Legislative Council, where guest speaker Supervisor Chuck Washington highlighted the ongoing work of the Higher Education Coalition in supporting regional education initiatives.
