While at Cal State Fullerton, she earned a Creating Writing Certificate with her short story "The Tragedy of Weeping Willow" published in the anthology Miles To Go Volume 2.  While obtaining her doctorate at UCLA, Cristina's focus shifted from literature to leadership support for college faculty with an emphasis on supporting associate faculty resulting in the publication of her dissertation: "Building A Sense of Belonging at Community Colleges from the Perspective and Voices of Part-time Faculty".
