Redefining the Goal of Education | Kevin Fleming
We all know and believe that education counts. For generations, formal education has been regarded as an on-ramp to professional career paths, social mobility, and financial prosperity. But the current metrics of success in education, such as completion rates and degrees, do not accurately measure learning gains nor one's potential. Today, student loan debt and the over saturation of some college majors in the workforce results in wide underemployment. In this talk, Dr. Kevin J. Fleming advocates for a shift in metrics and mindset towards holistic career development and essential skill mastery for all - in alignment with each learners' personality, passions, professions, and purpose.

Unlock Human Learning Potential In The Digital Age Using Oral Tradition | Ramont Smith
To learn fast today we need to learn from the past. We all know technology has changed how we learn and gather information. The human mind is adapting to information overload. In the academic world, students don't use their full learning potential. So, many feel stuck, stupid, depressed and hopeless. They already have huge learning potential, think about how much social media they consume. When they learn how to use that learning potential in the academic system, they will transform their college experience. The question is how can they transfer their learning potential into the academic world? That's what Ramont Smith explores in this brief synopsis of Speak it to Keep it, his Innovative Approach to Unleash the Power of Learning During College Lectures.

The Future of Archaeology is Indigenous | John Torres
New California legislation has completely altered the ways in which tribes interact with City, County and State Agencies, when it comes to tribal cultural resources. California tribal members are now at the table from the beginning of development projects to the end. I think it is time for tribal People to manage the entire process of protecting tribal cultural resources from planning, mitigation, interpretation, and curation, all while interpreting these resources through an Indigenous lens. After all it is their ancestors that made and used these resources. The future of archaeology is Indigenous. John A. Torres has been a professional anthropologist and archaeologist for over 30 years. The bulk of his research has been in Southern California, the Great Basin, and the American Southwest.
