COVID-19 Cases at MSJC

NOTICE | Sunsetting of COVID-19 Board Policies

Posted: 5/26/2022

The MSJC Board of Trustees on August 19, 2021, voted to approve a COVID-19 vaccine and testing program at MSJC for students, faculty, and staff in response to increasing cases of COVID-19 and its variants in our region. This action was approved at the board meeting on September 9, 2021, the board approved updated policies 5210-Communicable Disease (Student Services) and 7330-Communicable Disease (Human Resources).

These policies sunset on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. The District will no longer require students, faculty, and staff to vaccinate, wear a mask or complete weekly testing of those students, faculty, and staff who were granted exemption.

However, the District will continue to follow Cal OSHA and California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidelines for faculty and staff relating to positive cases and close contact exposure. Please refer to the Decision Tree and Return to Campus guidelines on the district website.

Faculty and staff will continue with our current protocols relating to contact tracing and the Cleared4 Daily Check-in system. We want to remind you that if you are experiencing symptoms or are not feeling well, please stay home. Contact your supervisor and Human Resources for further steps.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Human Resources at HRcovidresponse@msjc.edu

Stay Safe and Be Well!

As of May 25, 2022, the District will no longer require students, faculty, and staff to vaccinate, wear a mask or complete weekly testing of those students, faculty, and staff who were granted exemption.  However, isolation and quarantine guidelines are still in effect for those who test positive for COVID-19 and for those who are considered close contacts of an individual with COVID-19.  Also, STAFF are still required to check-in daily on Cleared4.

Per Cal/OHSA, all those at the MSJC Child Development & Education Center will be required to wear masks regardless of vaccination status to protect this vulnerable population.

The District may be subject to reinstate requirements for face coverings in certain situations, including during outbreaks.

Anyone should still feel comfortable wearing masks as desired.

Yes, employees must submit a COVID-19 Self-Check every day they will be on campus before coming onto campus.

Please refer to the COVID-19 Decision Tree.

Effective April 27, 2022, as long as employees are asymptomatic and regardless of their vaccination status, employees are no longer required to quarantine if they come in close contact with a COVID-19 positive case. CDPH recommends the following for those in close contact with a COVID-19 positive case, as follows:

  • Close contact should get tested within 3-5 days after the last exposure.
  • Close contacts should wear a well-fitting face covering around others for a total of 10 days after last exposure; especially in indoor settings and when near those at higher risk for severe COVID-19 disease.
  • Strongly encouraged to get vaccinated or boosted.
  • Persons infected within the prior 90 days do not need to be tested, quarantined, or excluded from work unless symptoms develop
  • If symptoms develop, test again and stay home. If test result is positive, follow the isolation guidelines listed here MSJC’s Decision Trees and contact Human Resources immediately.

CDPH also changed the close-contact definition: Individuals sharing the same indoor airspace (such as, home, clinic waiting room, airplane, etc.) for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period during an infected person's infectious period.

You may read more about CDPH guidelines here Guidance for Isolation and Quarantine of the General Public.

What does the removal of quarantine mean for MSJC Faculty & Staff?

  • If you are a close contact outside of work, you are no longer needed to report your exposure and should report to work if you have no symptoms. Please follow the recommended guidelines outlined above.
  • If there is a positive case at work, Human Resources will investigate and conduct a close contact tracing. If you are determined to be a close contact, you will be notified, but will not be required to quarantine if you have no symptoms.
  • If you are required to work on campus, please continue to complete the required daily self-check in via Cleared.

For more information regarding isolation and close contact guidelines, please visit MSJC’s COVID-19 Decision Trees or visit MSJC Return to Campus information for employees here.  Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact the COVID-19 Response Team via email at HRcovidresponse@msjc.edu or HR Main Line (951) 487-3161.

  • If the employee is at work, send the employee home or refer them to the County locations for testing at gettested.ruhealth.org
  • Have them complete the CLEARED4 daily COVID-19 self-check even if they have already done one that day
  • If the employee is at home, ask them to stay at home and ask them to complete the CLEARED4 daily COVID-19 self-check.
