MSJC District and Athletics Brand Refresh
3/30/2021
Mt. San Jacinto College is proud to announce fresh, modernized logos for the college district and the district’s athletics department.
The updated logos received the support of the Student Government Association and the Academic and Classified senates before being approved by the MSJC Board of Trustees on March 11, 2021.
“The MSJC brand is well-known throughout our service area and beyond, so we did not want to depart completely from our visual identity,” said Dr. Roger Schultz, MSJC Superintendent/President. “However, we knew we needed to modernize both the institutional and athletics logos for a number of reasons. Topping the list is that MSJC has grown both in size and service since the adoption of the previous logos. We wanted to be sure our brand reflects the transformational experience MSJC provides for students’ lives and for our communities long into the future.”
MSJC’s previous institutional and athletics logos were created prior to the rise of social media platforms like Facebook and the use of mobile devices to access websites and the Internet. The refreshed logos meet the needs of constantly evolving technologies; allow for easier application across media -- from cell phones to merchandise; reduce future costs by removing a third color; build consistency between the institutional and athletics brands; and increase the lifespans of the logos, said Karin Marriott, Director of Public Information, Marketing and Strategic Communications.
MSJC partnered with Torch Creative, LLC, to refresh and modernize the enduring logos. The logos will make a soft-launch appearance in areas such as the MSJC website and athletics. A full launch of the modernized logos is planned for July, where it will be made available on merchandise and in other areas. MSJC will take a phased approach to ensure a fiscally responsible implementation on signage and buildings.
The previous MSJC athletics eagle logo was created in the early 2000s. The updated athletics logo shows the eagle flying forward rather than backward and provides a unique logotype to showcase the MSJC Eagles teams.
“We are proud to use the updated athletics logo,” said Patrick Springer, Dean of Kinesiology and Athletics. “We are known throughout the state and this new brand gives a nod to our past logo while continuing to showcase MSJC Eagles as fierce competitors.”
The previous institutional logo was approved in 2008. To modernize the institutional logo, an abstract eagle and swoosh were removed, and the updated logo uses a simple but powerful typographic logo that accentuates the most-commonly used moniker for Mt. San Jacinto College: its acronym, MSJC.
