Celebrating UCR MacREU Internship Student Success

10/21/2025

This summer, five outstanding Mt. San Jacinto College students—Emma Stavola, Lamari Oliver, Derrick Romano, Aly Sadek, and Zayd Mayar—were selected to participate in the prestigious MacREU internship program at UC Riverside.

The MacREU program, funded by the National Science Foundation, provides hands-on research opportunities for undergraduate students from community colleges, four-year universities, and research institutions. Each summer, participants engage in cutting-edge projects focused on the growth, characterization, and application of thin films and monolayer materials, with opportunities spanning Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, and more.

Our MSJC students were recommended for this highly competitive program by dedicated faculty mentors:Nick Reeves (Biology), Dominick Scaletta (Physics), and Dejan Stekovic (Chemistry). Their guidance and support helped make these research experiences possible.

MSJC celebrates the hard work, curiosity, and achievement of our students as they continue to represent our college with excellence. We are proud of their accomplishments and grateful for the mentorship that helps open doors to life-changing opportunities.
