MSJC Trustee Calvin Smith Honored with Prestigious Book of Golden Deeds Award

12/8/2025

Mt. San Jacinto College proudly celebrates Trustee Calvin Smith, who was recognized on December 2 with the Exchange Club’s esteemed Book of Golden Deeds Award—the nation’s longest-running honor for volunteerism, dating back to 1919.

The award shines a light on individuals who devote themselves to serving others, often without seeking attention or praise. Calvin embodies this spirit fully. A husband, dad, uncle, friend, business owner, advocate, and unwavering champion for young people, he has deep roots in the San Jacinto Valley—roots reflected in his steadfast commitment to uplifting the community he loves.

For decades, Trustee Smith has strengthened the region's foundations through his dedication to education, economic vitality, and community well-being. His contributions span support for local Career and Technical Education programs, leadership as an MSJC Trustee, and service as board chair of the Healthy Valley Foundation, among many other efforts that continue to enrich lives across the valley.

On behalf of the entire MSJC family, congratulations, Trustee Smith!

Trustee Smith reminded the audience during his recognition ceremony, sharing a timeless quote from Helen Keller: "Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much." His work exemplifies exactly that.
