Mask Mandate Begins August 5

Dear Eagles,

I hope your summer has been going well and you and your families are in good health. If you have been watching the reports, cases of COVID-19 have surpassed last summer's peak nationwide. This, along with Riverside County reports of the increase in cases, has prompted Mt. San Jacinto College to issue new guidance to do our part in avoiding the spread of COVID-19.

Effective Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021, MSJC will implement a mask mandate inside all buildings and classrooms.  This mandate applies to all employees, students and visitors - regardless of their vaccination status. While much focus has been given to the DELTA variant, at this time it is the is ALPHA variant that concerns Riverside County health officials. It is now well-documented that those who have been fully vaccinated can still transmit the virus to others. Officials also report that fully vaccinated individuals can test positive for COVID-19 or a variant, although symptoms are likely to be much milder than those without the vaccination. 

Masks still prove to be one of the most effective methods to prevent contracting or transmitting the virus. Wearing a mask is a small inconvenience to ensure the health and safety of yourself, your families and your peers.

Here are things you should know. Please inform your fellow colleagues, students or others who come to campus.

  • Masks are mandatory inside, whether you have been vaccinated or not
  • Everyone must complete the Covid-19 Daily Checklist before arriving on campus, whether you have been vaccinated or not
  • Contact tracing is still required and MSJC continues to follow county, state, and Cal/OSHA guidance
  • If you need a special accommodation:
  • Do not come to campus for classes or work if you are sick, whether you have been vaccinated or not
  • Currently ​there are no social distancing requirements ​from health officials
  • No masks are required outdoors or in private offices
  • Student concerns or questions - please contact the Student Health Centers
  • Faculty and staff concerns or questions - please contact Human Resources or Risk Management
