MSJC to Offer Medical Assisting Preparation Certificate in Fall 2019
June 11, 2019
MSJC will offer a Medical Assisting Preparation Employment Concentration Certificate (MAPEC) at its Menifee Valley Campus beginning in the Fall 2019 semester.
The employment concentration certificate is an introductory program that prepares students for entry into the Administrative and Clinical Certificate programs that are scheduled to be offered at MSJC in 2021.
The certificate is designed to introduce students to some of the core courses in the Medical Assisting program. The courses included in this employment certificate are Medical Terminology, Medical Ethics, Administrative Medical Assisting, and Clinical Medical Assisting.
Students who obtain the MAPEC and continue on to the Medical Assisting program will be prepared to test for the American Healthcare Association and can obtain positions such as medical scribe, certified medical administrative assistant, certified clinical medical assistant, and certified billing or coding specialist.
According to the labor market study provided by the Center of Excellence, the need for medical assistants in the Riverside-San Bernardino counties region is expected to increase 18 percent through 2021. Employers in the region will need to hire 2,300 workers in the next five years to fill new positions and those vacated due to retirement.
