MSJC shifting online for remainder of January

1/6/2022

Eagles,

We had hoped to welcome you back onto our MSJC campuses for the start of the Spring 2022 semester -- however, current conditions related to the increase in COVID-19 infections has required us to transition most in-person classes to an online format for the month of January. Additionally, effective immediately, MSJC indoor events and activities will be postponed, modified, or cancelled.

The Spring 2022 semester will begin as scheduled on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. The vast majority of our courses were already scheduled to be held online; however, we will now transition the remainder of those courses, with few exceptions, to an online format for at least the month of January.

Our tentative plan is to return and transition our in-person courses back on our campuses starting on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. We will continue to monitor the pandemic and keep you notified of any changes. You will receive notification about changes to your in-person class, so please continue to check our website, your student email, and your Self-Service account frequently.

Only classes that cannot be sufficiently delivered online or have licensing requirements will continue on campus, primarily classes in nursing and allied health, automotive, and athletics. Those students will be notified accordingly. All face-to-face classes that transition to an online format will be synchronous, which means it will be held on the same date and time as it is listed in the schedule. All students are required to attend the online, synchronous meetings as listed in the schedule.

MSJC is poised to transition our courses and services online to ensure that our campus community remains safe and healthy during this surge. All Student Support Services, including counseling, will be available online at the Student Support Hub.

While the campuses will be mostly closed this month, we will provide the following services:

  • Free Wi-Fi will still be offered in our parking lots for students. Parking is free this semester and our student lots will be open from 8 AM to 6 PM Monday-Friday. Please do not exit your vehicle at any time. Restrooms will be closed during this time. Please see more information about the Wi-Fi at the Student Support Hub.
  • The MSJC bookstores on the San Jacinto and Menifee Valley campuses will remain open 8 AM to 5 PM Monday-Thursday and closed Fridays.
  • If you need a laptop to help you navigate the first two weeks, the MSJC libraries have Chromebooks to loan students. Schedule an appointment by calling 951-346-2292 to find out more about borrowing a Chromebook.
  • Our COVID-19 testing centers at our San Jacinto, Menifee Valley, and Temecula Valley campuses will be open to students, faculty, and staff.

Despite this transition, we have plenty of seats open in nearly all academic and career education disciplines and programs, and there is no need for you to remain on a waitlist. Please look for open seats on Self-Service.

Lastly, it is critical that you please pay your registration fees by Friday, Jan. 14, to avoid losing your seat in class.

More information is available and will be updated as needed on the Safe Return page. If you have questions or need assistance or guidance, please visit our online Student Support Hub.
