4/28/2026
MSJC welcomed students, faculty, staff, and community members to its annual Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American (APIDA) Celebration, a vibrant event dedicated to honoring the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of APIDA communities.
Held as part of MSJC's ongoing commitment to Equity in Access and Equity in Success, the celebration featured cultural expressions, student engagement, and a keynote address that resonated deeply with attendees.
In his welcome remarks, Superintendent/President Dr. Roger Schultz reflected on the significance of the event and its connection to the college's mission.
“This celebration is a reflection of MSJC's unwavering commitment to equity,” said Dr. Schultz. “We know that equity is not achieved by treating everyone the same—it is achieved by honoring the diverse identities, experiences, and needs of our students, and removing barriers so that every student can thrive.”
A highlight of the event was the keynote address delivered by Riverside County Office of Education Board Member Jennifer Mejares-Pham, whose personal story and reflections created a powerful connection with students in attendance. Drawing on her lived experiences, Mejares-Pham spoke candidly about identity, belonging, and perseverance, encouraging students to embrace their cultural heritage as a source of strength and inspiration.
Her message resonated strongly across the audience, inspiring students to reflect on their own journeys and move forward with confidence in their identities.
MSJC extends its sincere appreciation to Mejares-Pham for her impactful contribution, as well as to the students, faculty, and staff whose dedication and collaboration made the event possible. Through shared dialogue, the APIDA Celebration continues to serve as a meaningful space for connection, reflection, and pride.
