MSJC Umoja Club Honored at Temecula’s REDI Commission Meeting for Black History Month

2/19/2025

In celebration of Black History Month, Mt. San Jacinto College’s (MSJC) Umoja Club was invited to the Temecula Race, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI) Commission meeting. The public event took place on Thursday, February 13, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers, and local leaders recognized the contributions of Black and African American students in the community.

Umoja Club President Chelsea Ross, representing the Umoja Scholars Program, received a special proclamation in honor of Black History Month. The event provided an opportunity for student leaders to share their voices, highlight their ongoing efforts, and engage in meaningful dialogue with the community.

The Umoja Club follows the guiding principle of “ACE” in every proclamation celebration:

  • Acknowledging the significance of the special month

  • Celebrating with the youth of the community

  • Educating through information sharing and open dialogue

Chelsea Ross

The evening was a powerful testament to the leadership and dedication of Umoja students. Chelsea Ross delivered an inspiring speech emphasizing the importance of representation, empowerment, and community engagement.

MSJC is proud of its Umoja Scholars and their continued commitment to fostering inclusion, excellence, and cultural awareness. Congratulations to Chelsea Ross and the Umoja Club for this well-deserved recognition!
