MSJC Trustees Name Dr. Roger W. Schultz Superintendent/President Emeritus, Honor 25 Years of Leadership

8/21/2026

The Mt. San Jacinto Community College District Board of Trustees has named longtime college leader Dr. Roger W. Schultz Superintendent/President Emeritus, recognizing his 25 years of service to MSJC and a legacy that will continue through more than $120,000 raised in his honor to support students and the College's future University Center.

The Board approved the emeritus designation at its Aug. 13 meeting. Schultz served MSJC for 25 years, including 18 years as Superintendent/President, before retiring in June 2026.

"Dr. Schultz's leadership has left a lasting mark on Mt. San Jacinto College and the communities we serve," said Tom Ashley, President of the MSJC Board of Trustees. "The title of Superintendent/President Emeritus recognizes not only his years of dedicated service, but the impact of his leadership and his enduring commitment to our students and this institution."

During his tenure, Schultz guided MSJC through a period of significant growth and transformation. His leadership included developing the Temecula Valley Campus, continuing investment in the San Jacinto and Menifee Valley campuses, expanding educational opportunities, and planning for the College's future University Center. He also helped strengthen partnerships with business, government, and community organizations throughout the region.

"Dr. Schultz's leadership helped shape the MSJC we know today, and the impact of that work will continue well into the future," said Dr. Tawny Dotson, Superintendent/President of Mt. San Jacinto College. "The Emeritus designation is a meaningful way to recognize his service to the College while honoring the foundation he helped build for MSJC's next chapter."

The emeritus recognition follows the successful conclusion of the Dr. Roger W. Schultz Legacy Fund campaign, established by the MSJC Foundation in honor of Schultz's retirement. Launched with a $100,000 fundraising goal, the campaign surpassed that target, raising more than $120,000 through contributions from community partners, businesses, College employees, and individual supporters.

Significant contributions included $25,000 from the City of Temecula and $10,000 from Southwest Healthcare, representing Temecula Valley Hospital, Inland Valley Hospital, and Rancho Springs Hospital.

Twenty-five percent of the funds raised will support student success initiatives, while the remaining 75 percent will establish an endowed fund supporting the future University Center at the Temecula Valley Campus. The endowment will create a lasting investment in MSJC students and help expand access to higher education in Southwest Riverside County.

"I am deeply honored by this recognition and grateful for the opportunity I had to serve MSJC and our communities for 25 years," Schultz said. "What means the most to me is knowing that the work continues and that the generosity shown through the Legacy Fund will create opportunities for students for years to come."
