2/19/2025

A delegation from Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC) traveled to Washington, D.C., to participate in the 2025 National Legislative Summit (NLS) hosted by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). This premier event, held annually, brings together trustees, presidents, and community college leaders from across the country to advocate for federal policies that support students, workforce development, and the vital role of community colleges in higher education.

The MSJC delegation included Dr. Roger Schultz, Superintendent/President; Trustees Jhalister Corona and Calvin Smith; and Karin Marriott, Director of Government Relations.

During the summit, the MSJC team met with Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D., and Marshall Bessey, Legislative Assistant for Rep. Ken Calvert, to discuss funding priorities, student aid programs, and workforce development initiatives. Their advocacy efforts focused on expanding access to education, strengthening workforce partnerships, and securing resources that benefit community college students in California and beyond.

"We are honored to represent MSJC at this important event and advocate for policies that empower our students and communities," said Dr. Roger Schultz. "Community colleges are a driving force behind workforce innovation and economic mobility, and it is crucial that we ensure continued federal support for our institutions and students."

The National Legislative Summit provides a platform for engaging with lawmakers on critical issues affecting community colleges, including Pell Grant expansion, workforce funding, and infrastructure support. MSJC leaders also networked with community college representatives from across the nation, sharing best practices and discussing strategies for advancing student success.
