Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC) celebrated its growing impact on students and communities during its 2026 State of the College – Report to the Community, held Thursday, November 5, at the Temecula Valley Campus. Under the theme “Soar Higher, Transform Tomorrow,” the event brought together elected officials, regional dignitaries, business and education leaders, and community partners to celebrate student achievement, highlight institutional progress, and share a vision for Southwest Riverside County.

In her first State of the College address, MSJC Superintendent/President Dr. Tawny Dotson reflected on the college's accomplishments and outlined her vision for expanding educational opportunities, strengthening workforce development, and meeting the needs of one of California's fastest-growing regions. “Every student who comes to MSJC brings dreams and aspirations for a better future,” said Dotson. “Our responsibility is to turn those aspirations into opportunities. As our region grows, access to quality higher education must grow with it. When we invest in our students, we strengthen families, build our workforce, and transform our communities.”

Since 2023, MSJC enrollment has increased by more than 18%, reaching over 27,000 students, with projections to exceed 30,000 during the current academic year. Degrees and certificates awarded have also increased by 34% during the same period.

The presentation focused on the top five priorities of MSJC's 2024–2030 Educational Master Plan: Equity in Access, Equity in Support, Equity in Success, Fiscally Sound Position, and Community Partnerships and Service.

Trustees and college administrators highlighted initiatives supporting these priorities, including a new engineering program, expanded transfer pathways, career education, and workforce partnerships. Among the student achievements recognized was MSJC's continued participation in the competitive CIRM Bridges to Stem Cell Research Internship Program, which provides students with research experience in San Diego laboratories.

College leaders also discussed the District's $441.6 million budget for the 2026–2027 fiscal year, approved by the Board of Trustees in September, which supports instruction, student services, financial aid, facilities, and campus improvements. “Our Board is committed to ensuring MSJC remains accessible, financially strong, and responsive to our communities,” said Board of Trustees President Tom Ashley. “The progress we celebrate today reflects the dedication of our employees, the determination of our students, and the support of our community partners. Through responsible investments and collaboration, we are creating opportunities that will benefit our region for generations.”

MSJC Foundation Board President Patrick Ellis highlighted progress toward establishing a University Center at the Temecula Valley Campus. Through the Southwest Riverside County Higher Education Coalition, which includes more than 30 regional stakeholders, MSJC is working to expand access to bachelor's degrees closer to home, helping students advance their education while continuing to work, support their families, and contribute to the local economy.

Thanks to the generosity of HCN Bank, Southwest Healthcare, Julie Ngo – State Farm, and Scotts Miracle-Gro, all attendees enjoyed a complimentary breakfast. MSJC expresses its appreciation to the sponsors, elected officials, dignitaries, and community partners whose participation and support contribute to the college's success.

Dotson concluded by emphasizing that MSJC's future will be measured not simply by new buildings or programs, but by the opportunities created for students and the lasting impact of their success on families and communities.
