MSJC shifting the majority of classes online

Dear Student,
I would like to announce that the majority of classes will be moved to an online education platform to reduce the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and minimize the potential impact on staff and students.
Classes will be canceled on Monday, March 16, and Tuesday, March 17. During this time, all MSJC campuses will remain open, subject to the direction of the Riverside County Public Health Department. The childcare center on the San Jacinto Campus will remain open for childcare. The district is taking extra steps to ensure the health of the staff, children and their families.
It is our intention that we move as many courses as possible to an online platform. However, there will be some exceptions for courses that do not lend well to an online format.
Online instruction for students is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, March 18. Students will receive email communications with next steps and instructions. A list of those classes that will continue on campus will be posted at msjc.edu/coronavirus.
As of March 12, 2020, MSJC has no confirmed evidence or official notice from health officials about any coronavirus cases or exposure risks related to any of the District’s campuses. MSJC is following the guidelines set forth by the California Department of Public Health for scenario 1, which outlines the steps a district should take to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The Board of Trustees approved an emergency resolution during their regular meeting on March 12, 2020, authorizing the District to take any and all necessary actions to prepare and respond
effectively to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). Additionally, they approved an emergency
blanket distance education addendum, as required by the Chancellor’s Office.
The Board of Trustees fully supports the proactive leadership of Dr. Schultz and his
executive team during this situation. The Board wants to assure our students, faculty,
staff and the entire MSJC community that their health and welfare is our primary concern.
Effective immediately and until further notice, all MSJC public events and other activities will be postponed, modified or canceled. We are evaluating athletic competitions and events in conjunction with the state CCCAA. This change is in accordance with public health officials’ recommendations to follow social distancing guidelines and to limit large events.
The changes will remain in effect until further notice.
MSJC officials will continue to evaluate the constantly-evolving situation. Further communication regarding services available to students, including online counseling, will be provided on Friday, March 13, 2020.

I recognize that this is affecting all of us and creates some uncertainty, but we are a tremendous organization who always works together for the betterment of our college community.
