How To Report A Crime
Mt. San Jacinto College is an excellent source of information to our community in Crime Prevention. The most beneficial way of preventing crime is through the tips & watchful eye of an informed public. The following outline has been illustrated for our community & gives all the information in how to report a crime in the correct manner:

The dispatcher will answer the phone. Remain calm and speak clearly. It's really important to provide to the dispatcher as much information as possible, such as:
- What happened?
- When did it happen?
- What did the suspect look like: height, weight, clothing, hair color?
- Were there any weapons used: What type?
- Is the suspect still there; if not, which direction did he/she go?
- Did the suspect drive a car: What type, color?
Do not Hang up until the dispatcher tells you to hang up.
It is extremely important that you give the dispatcher as much information as possible. The dispatcher relays all of your information to the police officers who are "out in the field" responding to your call. It is imperative for the safety of the officers that you put as much detail into your report as possible, so they know exactly what they are responding. Your assistance is always appreciated. The information that you provide assists in keeping Mt. San Jacinto College a beautiful and safe environment for all.

"Any person who reports, or causes any report to be made, to any city, county, city and county, or state department, district, agency, division, commission, or board, that an 'emergency' exists, knowing that such report is false, is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punishable by imprisonment in the county jail, not exceeding one year, or by a fine, not exceeding one thousand dollars($1,000), or by both such fine and imprisonment. "Penal Code Section 148.3(a)
"Any person who reports, or causes any report to be made to any city, county, city and county, or state department, district, agency, division, commission, or board, that an 'emergency' exists, knowing that such report is false, and great bodily injury or death is sustained by any person as a result of such false report, is guilty of a felony and upon conviction thereof, shall be punishable by imprisonment in the state prison, or by fine of not more than ten thousand dollars ($10,000), or by both such fine and imprisonment. "Penal Code Section 148.3(b)
