ADN Admission and Application Information

ADN Admission Requirements


1. Application and admission to Mt. San Jacinto College, along with completion of MSJC's enrollment process.

2. Submit proof of High School Diploma or equivalent and all Official Transcripts from all Colleges and/or Universities attended to Enrollment Services.

3. Meet with a Health and Wellness Pathway Counselor to review required coursework, develop an educational plan and get an overview of timelines associated with applying to the program.  

NOTE: All Official Transcripts from other colleges attended must be submitted or already on file before your evaluation can be completed! (Electronic transcripts must be submitted to officialtranscripts@msjc.edu) All foreign transcripts must be evaluated by an accredited U.S. company. A list of approved companies for foreign transcript evaluations can be found at naces.org.  You will receive your completed prerequisite evaluation with a letter stating your program application eligibility via your Self Service account. 

4. A minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 college scale and a grade "C" or better in the following admission requirement courses (prerequisites):

*Effective Spring 2020, the Nursing Program is accepting online/hybrid courses until further notice. Please Note: other Nursing programs may not accept online/hybrid courses. 

5. Complete and submit a Nursing and Allied Health Evaluation Request Form to Enrollment Services electronically through the Student Support Hub, once all prerequisites are completed or you are in the last semester of completion. Submit the form before the July 1st or December 1st Deadline.  Once Evaluation is reviewed and processed by an Evaluator, notification of eligibility to apply to the program will be emailed to student and detailed information can be located in Program Notes on Self-Service.  Student's Program Notes can be located in Self-Service->Student Planning->View Your Progress (Go to My Progress)->under Nursing. Please Note: If your Evaluation does not have an expiration date it is only valid for one year.

6. Evaluation Request Forms submitted after the deadline will not be accepted. No exceptions.

7. If Evaluation results confirm eligibility, download a Nursing Program Application from this website and submit during the application filing period listed below. Applications are available for download from our Associate Degree Nursing website during the application period and submitted electronically to the Nursing Dropbox.

Late applications will not be accepted. No exceptions. 

8. Applications will be reviewed using the Multi-Criteria Point System. This tool includes, but is not limited to:
    • Copies of Program Notes (Prerequisite Evaluation results)
    • Previous academic degrees, diploma, or relevant state approved certificate or license
    • Diplomas or relevant certifications
    • Grade point average in prerequisite courses
    • Life experiences
    • Military
    • Proficiency or advanced level coursework in a language other than English
    • Relevant work or volunteer in health care in the last 3 years
    • Copy of unofficial TEAS full report including component sections of English, math, science, and reading (Official results will be requested upon acceptance)
    • Work or Volunteer Experience form (Signed & Dated by Employer or Supervisor with contact information) 100 hours or more, can be used for criteria 4 and/or 7 on Multi-criteria point system.

9. Attend mandatory Nursing Information Workshop via live Zoom or view the PowerPoint Presentation and student must attach the "Certificate of Attendance" with the Nursing Application that is found on the Program Workshop tab for the Associate Degree Nursing page.

Advanced Placement LVN-ADN Admission Requirements

 
Advanced Placement LVN-ADN Applications are accepted only during the September Filing Period. 

1. Meet with a Health and Wellness Pathway Counselor to review required coursework, previous coursework or experience that may be eligible for advanced placement, develop an educational plan, and get an overview of timelines associated with applying to the program.

5. Students will be considered for advanced placement based on prior learning and experience. Students will be assessed cognitively, and psychomotor skills based on their knowledge and experience, or prior/current education and experience, and given credit for prior learning as appropriate.

      • LVN – RN Applicants must submit a copy (back and front) of a current and active California Vocational Nursing License with their application materials.
    • Diplomas or relevant certifications
    • Grade point average in prerequisite courses
    • Life experiences
    • Military
    • Proficiency or advanced level coursework in a language other than English
    • Relevant work or volunteer in health care in the last 3 years
    • Copy of unofficial TEAS full report including component sections of English, math, science, and reading (Official results will be requested upon acceptance)

Challenge/Advanced Placement into the Nursing Education Program for Military Personnel

The Mt. San Jacinto College School of Nursing supports and appreciates the sacrifices that our Military Personnel have made for our country. As such, we offer an opportunity for our veterans to earn credit for their work, educational experience, and background. Students will be considered for advanced placement based on prior learning and experience. Students will be assessed cognitively, and psychomotor skills based on their knowledge and experience, or prior/current education and experience, and given credit for prior learning as appropriate. The following policy is a way to recognize our veterans for their contributions.

1. Meet with a Health and Wellness Pathway Counselor to review required coursework, previous coursework or experience that may be eligible for advanced placement, develop an educational plan, and get an overview of timelines associated with applying to the program.  

2. Application and admission to Mt. San Jacinto College, along with completion of MSJC's enrollment process.

3. Submit proof of High School Diploma or equivalent and all Official Transcripts from all Colleges and/or Universities attended to Enrollment Services.

4. Applicants must meet all general entrance requirements of the Associate Degree Nursing
Program, including a minimal GPA of 2.5, completion of designated prerequisites and the
Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) with a minimum score of 62%.

5. Acceptance of Military Challenge students into the Associate Degree Nursing Program is
contingent upon space availability, skills competency (determined after meeting with
Program Director), 75% or above on the Challenge Exam and 100% on a dosage
calculation quiz.

6. Military Challenge students applying to the Associate Degree Nursing Program after
failure at another school will need a letter from the Program Director of the previous
Nursing School indicating that they were in good standing upon departure from that
program.

7. Applicant must submit DD214 with Application.

Procedure for Advanced Placement Military Students (Active Duty, Reserve, Guard or Veterans) Admitted to MSJC Nursing Program

 
TEAS Policy

Prospective nursing students must pass a Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) prior to program admission. This test assesses basic skills in Math, English, Reading, and Science. 

Applicants are required to submit unofficial transcript of the highest of two attempts on either TEAS VI and/or VII.  Preparation for this assessment is essential. Study resources can be found on the ATI website.  An applicant must achieve a passing composite score of 62% or above in order to be eligible for admission. 

Students will submit TEAS unofficial transcript with application. Official Transcript required as a condition of acceptance.

The ATI TEAS VI and/or VII test can only be taken twice each in order to achieve a passing score. We will accept the highest score of these attempts.  We no longer accept TEAS V results.

Effective February 2024 application period we will only accept TEAS VII.

 

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed based on the Multi-Criteria Selection Process.  Students will be notified by email to the email address provided on their application approximately 6-8 weeks after the end of the application period. Applicants who are not selected for the nursing program will be notified by email t the email address provided on their application approximately 6-8 weeks after the end of the application period and may reapply during the next application filing period. No waitlist is maintained.

NOTE: After Final Selection, students who are unable to meet required immunization and background clearance by the specified due date will be dropped from the program.
