ENGLISH ALTERNATIVES
MOOC – Crafting an Effective Writer: Tools of the Trade
     PRE-ASSESSMENT and/or ALTERNATIVE TO BASIC SKILLS COURSE and/or SKILL BUILDING
Learn to become an effective builder of sentences using the basic tools of grammar, punctuation, and writing. By dedicating yourself to the craft of writing, you will learn to develop the four basic sentence types into a well-organized, detailed paragraph. This course is designed for anyone who wants to become a better writer. If you need to write more clearly for work, prepare for a placement test for a college, or improve your skills for current writing projects, this class will definitely be beneficial.

ENGLISH 092 – English Fundamentals and Writing Skills  
     ACCELERATED COURSE
English 092 is a 5-unit accelerated course open to students who placed one to two levels below college English.  This course covers College level research, reading, and writing with a focus on English 101 level work.  Contact your counselor to see if English 092 is right for you.

MATH XL – An Alternative to Math 50 
     PRE-ASSESSMENT and/or ALTERNATIVE TO BASIC SKILLS COURSE and/or SKILL BUILDING
An independent study opportunity is available for students to master the prerequisite arithmetic skills required for Math 51 (Pre-Algebra) and all higher math classes.  There are 5 modules in Math XL (math software developed by Pearson publishing) in which students will review fractions, decimals, percentages, and order of operations.  In order to qualify to retake the MSJC Math Placement test, students will need to score at least 80% on each of the five modules.  Click here for more information
