From February 25th through March 15th, the Mt. San Jacinto College Art Gallery will feature “The 2012 Art Associates Show.” This exhibit is hosted every other year and features work made by the Art Associates, the gallery volunteers. This group is made of up MSJC students and community members. “The Art Associates Show” not only celebrates these individuals’ artistic talent, but it is also a sincere gesture of thanks for their generosity in donating their time to the gallery.
With a wide variety of artwork on display (paintings, ceramics, sculptures, and drawings), this show will be visually and conceptually diverse. Much of this comes from the fact that the art on display was made by thirteen artists of different ages, backgrounds, and life experiences. The exhibit promises to be a rich and unique collection of expression, experience, and personal style.
There are currently twenty four active volunteers; about half this number are artists. The majority of the Art Associates have been with the gallery for many years; some have volunteered for over twenty years. The director, Brandelyn Dillaway, feels very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with such a great group of people. They directly contribute to the success of the gallery and its programs and she could not effectively do her job without them. She is proud to present this exhibit as a means to spotlight this very important set of community volunteers.
The opening reception for “The 2012 Art Associates Show” will be held on Saturday, February 25 from 3-5pm; refreshments will be served and live music will be performed by guitarist Chuck Smolsky. The opening reception and exhibit are free and open to the public. The MSJC Art Gallery is located on the San Jacinto campus in room 1400. Gallery hours are Monday – Thursday, 10am – 4pm.
