The MSJC football team will once again host its first two home football games of the season at Vista Murrieta High School. The Eagles will play Chaffey College on September 10th and West Los Angeles College on September 17th at Vista. Both games will kick off at 6 p.m.
Last season, for the first time in many years, the Eagles ventured away from Carl Quandt Stadium to play two games at an alternate home site in the Southwest Corridor of the district, and were very pleased with the results.
“Last year was a great start getting the entire district excited about MSJC football,” Dean of Student Services Patrick Springer said.
In last season’s opening game the Eagles drew a great crowd numbering close to 1,500 for a game with rival College of the Desert. Head football coach Casey Mazzotta hopes that a return to Vista this year will continue to build the team’s recruiting base in the Temecula/Murrieta area.
“Playing down in this area last year was a valuable experience. It allowed us to play a couple night games which seemed to make it easier to attract potential high school recruits,” he said. “It also just gives us more exposure in the Southwest Corridor.”
The Eagles finished last season with a 6-4 overall record and a 4-1 mark in the American Mountain Conference. MSJC will play its three other home games this season at Carl Quandt Stadium on the San Jacinto Campus. This season marks the 20th year the Eagles have called the stadium home. The three games at San Jacinto are September 24th vs. L.A. Southwest, October 15th against San Bernardino, and November 5th against San Diego Mesa. The Mesa game on November 5th will be the Eagles 2011 homecoming game. Look for further updates on all the Homecoming activities that week.
