MSJC Board approves energy-efficient lighting
Upgrade of lighting systems will save $200,000 a year
Mt. San Jacinto College will become more energy efficient and save on utility costs thanks to a comprehensive energy project approved by the Board of Trustees during its regular meeting on April 14, 2011.
Under a contract with Compass Energy Solutions from Redlands, MSJC will upgrade its interior and exterior lighting systems on the San Jacinto and Menifee Valley campuses. The new lighting systems will use new, high-quality, energy-efficient florescent lighting. It will also enhance campus safety.
The project will cost $1.5 million, which was budgeted. The District will be able to use 0-interest financing on the project and once the retrofit is completed, it will receive $300,000 from Southern California Edison as part of an energy savings incentive program.
In addition, by using energy-efficient lighting, the District will save about $200,000 a year in utility costs.
