Alexis Weisbrod

Alexis A. Weisbrod received her BFA in Dance from the University of Minnesota and her PhD in Critical Dance Studies from the University of California, Riverside. Dr. Weisbrod has studied throughout the United States and Europe at places such as CalArts, Alvin Ailey School, Edge Performing Arts Center, Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway. She has performed and presented her scholarly work at venues nationally and internationally, including Highways Performance Space (Los Angeles), The Southern Theater (Minneapolis), and Tanzsommer (Innsbruck, Austria). Dr. Weisbrod is an Associate Faculty member at Mt. San Jacinto College, and has been on faculty at University of California, Riverside and Norco College. Her article "Defining Dance, Creating Commodity: The Rhetoric of So You Think You Can Dance" is forthcoming in The Oxford Handbook of Dance and the Popular Screen and she is co-editing the Society of Dance History Scholar's Fall edition of the journal "Conversations Across the Field of Dance Studies." Dr. Weisbrod is also Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Alias Movement, a Temecula Valley based, multi-disciplinary repertory company, and along with Natalia Morales and Preet Mutneja, recently opened the doors of Alias Movement Center, a dance and fitness center for adults based in Murrieta. pratteforintro.jpg
