Mt. San Jacinto Community College District
Budget Committee Meeting
March 19, 2002
The meeting began at 3:37 p.m. with Becky Elam (co-chair), Dewey Heinsma (co-chair),
Carol Montez, Dennis Hogan, Ron Bowman, Gale Ward, Greg Estrada, Karen Watts
and guest speakers David King, Sherry Moore and Cheryl Devenney. Absent were
Rolando Regino, John Norman, Dennis Anderson, and Mayda Rivera.
Greg Estrada is the newest member and is replacing Jeanine Woodford.
- On motion by Dewey Heinsma and seconded by Gale Ward, the minutes for February
26, 2002 were approved.
- David King and Sherry Moore gave a joint presentation on the libraries.
According to Accreditation reports and goals both libraries need to add substantially
to their collections to provide current resources for students. A consultant
was employed to study areas of focus. Both libraries have made some growth
and have met several of the goals set forth in the Master Plan such as transferring
to SIRSI software, electronic books, FLEX activities for faculty, on-line
tutorials, and catering to distance education. Both libraries fall short of
Accreditation recommendations and Title 5 requirements. The libraries rely
heavily on PFE and TTIP funds. The concern is that the libraries will not
be able to meet Title 5 requirements in time for the next Accreditation Study
especially if their budgets are cut. Both libraries are asking for stable
funding sources and substantial increases.
- Cheryl Devenney gave a brief report about the library's hardware inventory
(computers, laptops, televisions, VCR's, DVD's overhead projectors, etc.)
The library is responsible for the hardware in classrooms. The concern is
for funding that provides new hardware and also funding to replace older items
when they become outdated and/or need repairs.
- The next meeting will be April 16 at 3:30 p.m. in room 1202.
The meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
