Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the tryout process?
After signing in, there will be a brief session for introductions and stretching. Tumbling and stunting skills will be performed first on the football field.  We will then move to the gym where the entire group will perform the pre-taught cheer and dance routines.  Each candidate will then be put into small groups of 3-4 to perform the dance again.  Each candidate will then be asked to individually perform a cheer, cheer kicks, toe-touches, hurdlers, herkies, pike jumps as well as any other specialty jump you may have.

  2. When will new squad members be announced?
The new squad members will be announced the same day of tryouts, time permitting.

  3. Who will be judging the performances?
Performances will be judged by the Eagles Cheer Coach and at least two other independent judges.

  4. What should I wear to tryouts?
    • Women: black fitted shirt with a sports-bra underneath (Absolutely NO Cleavage or mid-drifts showing!), black cheer or dance shorts with “spankies” underneath (not loose), white socks, white sneakers and red hair bow.  Make up, if worn should be mild and blend in naturally.  No jewelry of any kind will be tolerated.
    • Men: black t-shirt, black shorts, clean shaven, well-groomed with white socks and white cheer shoes.  No jewelry of any kind will be tolerated.
  5. How many people do you want to have on the team?
There will be 12-20 spots available for the performance team, with others being allowed on as alternates, for a total of no more than 35 squad members.  All squad members will be expected to participate in all team commitments.  Roles to that end will be determined at the Coach's discretion.

  6. What are the requirements for being a part of the team?
Team members must sign up for the cheer class (Pep Squad).  They are required to carry and pass all units including the cheer class each semester and they must maintain a basic GPA in order to be eligible to perform and compete.  Teams will practice and perform during the week and on weekends.  Teams are selected in the spring for the following year, giving time for cheer camp during the summer months.  Team members should also demonstrate a strong sense of school spirit, a high level of enthusiasm, technical cheer skills, a willingness to learn, be self-motivated, have a good work ethic and be totally committed and dedicated to the program.

  7. What are the team commitments?
    • Participation in at least 3 community service events.
    • Participation in fund-raising events.
    • Participation in all team functions (games, playoffs, promotional events, etc) and commissioned performances.
    • Attend & participate in all practices (min. 2-3x per week; Dates & Times to be determined).

  8. What skills are recommended or ideal to have prior to trying out for the team?
While the following skills are ideal, they are not a requirement for being on the team.  Please do not be discouraged from trying out based on this list.  If you are working on these skills, we would still love to see you!  We also schedule practices, in the form of a clinic, which you can attend, prior to tryouts, where you can see your competition and work on some of these types of skills.
